Leaf 03:47
do you ever confide there in the back of your mind whole lots of things seem improperly paced societal strides are such a burden of mine i didn't ask for them to be misplaced and all that goes by i feel like i've been denied i get one life that i can't even chase days to hours to minutes knowing i'll just forget it pardon me, but this feels like a waste this time and next time and all times to keep on coming takes time to make time so for now i'll recline while i'm waiting for a leaf to change sick of being done dirty just to prove that i'm worthy of securing a shot to begin every egg in one basket because that's what they're asking then it's right back to the start again how does anyone make it? i feel strongly i'm breaking under pressures that i can't contain a lot of what gets me, yeah what really upsets me voided time that just can't be regained over and over this only gets that much older feelings get colder, they've left with the sunshine and i'm waiting for a leaf to change and always this time and next time, like all times, they keep on coming takes time to make time i've not got mine so now i'm trying over and over to just be there when that leaf does change

about

to celebrate five years of "Don't Worry, You're Great!," here's "Leaf," a song that - until now - sat incomplete on the cutting room floor of the DWYG sessions.

why was it cut? well, mostly because i couldn't figure out anywhere to take the song that wasn't too similar to "Unit for Rent" (the third song on DWYG), and that song is better than this one. even in completion, the song has an inexcusable amount of "Unit for Rent" in it - the reprise is identical! the intro drum fill is identical! - but i think the distinguishing ideas within are worth sharing with the world, especially five years after the fact.

there's also the fact that, lyrically, the song is less "shit sucks sometimes but it's ok!" a la the rest of DWYG... and more "shit just sucks," which wasn't the vibe for the album, even if those feelings were (are?) legitimate.

anyway, this track was produced and mastered to approximate DWYG's sound profile - you should be able to slot it into your DWYG-heavy playlists (those are a thing you have, right?) pretty seamlessly.

enjoy!
